Mark A. Carter is a partner in the Chicago law firm of Adelman & Gettleman, Ltd. Since entering private practice in 1990, Mr. Carter has represented a diverse range of public and private companies, contractors and financial institutions in business transactions, restructurings and related insolvency matters.

Mr. Carter's practice includes the representation of middle market companies in corporate transactions and construction matters in the context of insolvency. He also regularly advises clients in business acquisition matters, secured transactions, construction related matters, member and shareholder disputes and corporate governance matters. Mr. Carter has extensive experience litigating in federal court on behalf of creditors in insolvency related litigation such as fraudulent conveyance and avoidance power actions and lien enforcement matters.

Prior to joining Adelman & Gettleman, Ltd., Mr. Carter served as the law clerk for the Honorable Richard N. DeGunther, U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the Northern District of Illinois from 1988 to 1990. He is a graduate of the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana, having graduated in May of 1985, with high honors from the College of ACES, and in May of 1988, from the College of Law. Mr. Carter has published articles and spoken at seminars on corporate and insolvency matters throughout his career and has listed a representative sample on the Publication link on this cite.

Mr. Carter is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Chicago Bar Association. He is also a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and is the past chair of the ISBA's Business and Securities Law Section Council. Mr. Carter has been admitted in the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois (June 1992), U.S. Court of Appeals for the 7th Circuit (June 1994) and the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Indiana (December 2002). Mr. Carter is active in the community having served on the City of Naperville Fair Housing Advisory Commission (2005 to 2013), including as the Chairman.
